FIORETTA TEAM: 10 questions with fabric designer Vildan Bayar

Vildan Bayar has been designing curtain fabrics as a fabric designer at Fioretta Home for more than 15 years. In our short interview, she explained

  • how she became a fabric designer,
  • where she finds inspiration for her designs,
  • what she likes about her job the most,
  • Fioretta Home’s plans and curtain design trends for 2022,
  • and finally, what kind of designs she has been working on recently.

1. When did you first realize that you wanted to be a fabric designer?

Pattern designing runs in our family. I, too, as a child showed a talent for designing. Plus, I have always been interested in colors and fashion. I guess, the combination of these interests reinforced my desire to become a fabric designer.

2. Can you tell us more about your journey to becoming a fabric designer?

During my high school years, I got an education in fashion design. After that, I did my undergraduate studies at Gazi University and Mersin University in the department of jewelry design. Then, I started my career as a teacher. I was teaching jewelry design at Bursa Public Education Centre (Bursa halkeğitim merkezleri) for about 3 years. But, I realized that I didn’t want to ”only” teach, I wanted to create full-time. So, I did a course on textile design and started to work as a fabric designer. This journey eventually formed my identity as the designer I am today.

3. How long have you been working as a fabric designer at Fioretta Home?

I have been working for Fioretta Home, in their Research & Development department, since 2007. Here, as a fabric designer, I follow the color trends and design patterns, color variants, and weaves for curtain fabrics.

4. How would you describe Fioretta Home as a brand?

Fioretta Home’s mission is to provide fast services of the highest quality to its local and international customers and to meet their requests and expectations in the best possible way. And I would say that we are quite good at it as we have lots of loyal customers we have been working with for years now.

5. Where do you find inspiration for your designs?

Life itself is a source of inspiration for me. I believe that all our experiences, colors, textures, fabrics, even a film you watch can be anyone’s source of inspiration.

6. What do you like the most about your job?

The fact that Fioretta Home is a family business and the fact that we are a young and dynamic team that tries to be better every day. This also helps us to follow new trends and to be more flexible. But, I also like to exchange ideas with my colleagues and to make joint decisions together. This is probably the most enjoyable part of my job.

7. What will be the main trend for curtains and curtain fabrics in 2022, any opinion?

Curtains are the design element that separates our homes from the outside. They are an indispensable part of our interiors, and every year we see new models, patterns, and colors. The main trends that await us this year are thick and textured fabrics, flowy tulles, indispensable tropical motifs, and horizontal lines dominated by warm yellow tones.

8. What are Fioretta Home’s plans for this year? Any new designs, exhibitions, etc?

As every year, also in 2022, we plan to participate in local and international trade shows and to present our new designs with new patterns and color variants to our customers. Some trade shows we regularly participate in had been postponed due to the pandemic the last couple of years. But, we believe that the situation will get better this year and we will be able to meet our customers face to face again.

9. What are you currently working on? Could you describe to us one of your latest designs?

I always try to create soft and refreshing textures alongside very large patterns to create eye-catching effects. When you combine these kinds of fabrics well you can use them to create a nice warm atmosphere in any kind of space.

10. How would you describe your personal style in interior design?

Contemporary interior design should have a style that is modern and versatile, but at the same time, it should be open to change and innovation. I, personally, prefer a style that adds some color to my life but does not strain your eyes and does not break away from airiness. You can achieve this effect by creating a harmony between flat and textured surfaces. If you stick to this rule, it is almost impossible to create combinations that would feel disproportionate or unbalanced.
